Whitby Tennis Club COVID-19 Rules for 2021

In light of the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Whitby Tennis Club COVID-19 Rules for 2021 must be understood and adhered to by all WTC members and all participants in club programs. The following rules for 2021 take into account recommendations from the Ontario Government and the OTA. These rules also form the Whitby Tennis Club’s safety plan, as required by item 18 of the OTA’s Response Framework for Outdoor Tennis - last updated March 15, 2021.

Failure to adhere to these rules will result in termination of membership privileges without any refund of fees.

  1. The following individuals are not permitted to use the Town-Owned courts that WTC have permitted if they have any of the following:
    1. Anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and who has not been deemed by health authorities to have recovered from COVID-19;
    2. Anyone who has any symptom associated with COVID-19, including fever, cough, tiredness, aches and pains, nasal congestion, sore throat, diarrhea, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, headache, chest pain/pressure, loss of taste or smell, discolouration of fingers or toes, or loss of speech or movement;
    3. Anyone who has returned from traveling outside of Canada or outside of the Province of Ontario in the past 14 days; or,
    4. Anyone who knows or believes that they may have been exposed in the past 14 days to: a person who has symptoms of COVID-19; or a person who has tested positive for COVID-19.
    5. All those who fall into any of these categories are considered a “prohibited person” and cannot attend the facility for play until the condition is resolved.
  2. The courts are not subject to a cleaning protocol by the Town or by the WTC, i.e. on door handles, benches, nets, etc. It is the responsibility of everyone using the facility during the WTC permitted hours to ensure they are practicing good hand hygiene by using their own hand sanitizer after touching any surfaces at the facility.
  3. Players shall take home or dispose in town trash cans all items that they brought to the court, including used wipes/tissues, balls and cans, beverage containers, etc.
  4. The court access gates are to be left open during the WTC permitted hours.
  5. Physical distancing of 2 metres will need to be strictly adhered to on the court and off while using the tennis facilities.
  6. Players shall not enter the fenced tennis area until the start of their match times, and shall leave promptly when their match times have ended. Players shall not congregate inside or outside the fenced area before or after their matches.
  7. Balls may be shared while on the court, but players should continue to practice good hand hygiene by using their own hand sanitizer before, during and after play.  Players should always avoid touching their faces.
  8. Each member of a family who is participating in WTC activities must have a separate electronically signed WTC COVID-19 Waiver – 2021 Season.  Click here for instructions. Members who do not have a current COVID-19 waiver will not be allowed to participate in any WTC programs and will not be allowed to book courts or to be booked on courts by others.
  9. Guests are not allowed on the courts permitted by the WTC.
  10. Courts may be booked online up to one week in advance.  At the time of booking, the booker must select the names of one or three other members to be included in the match.  Click here for more information on our court booking services.
  11. After the initial court booking, if the players included in the initial booking change, the member who booked the court must update the online booking system before the scheduled match start time with the actual members playing, as the WTC will need to maintain accurate records of players on court to assist with contact tracing in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak.

These Whitby Tennis Club COVID-19 Rules for 2021 are subject to change as the COVID situation evolves.  Members and participants in club programs will be notified via email when changes occur, and the most up to date version will be posted here on the Whitby Tennis Club web site.
