Whitby Tennis Club – COVID-19 Rules

We are happy to offer court reservations and singles ladder play for our members starting July 27, 2020.  In light of the global pandemic situation, there are additional considerations that need to be understood by all members before they sign up.  Here is a list of rules that take into account both the OTA and Town of Whitby recommendations.

  1. The following individuals are not permitted to use the Town-Owned courts that WTC have permitted if they have any of the following:
    1. Anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and who has not been deemed by health authorities to have recovered from COVID-19;
    2. Anyone who is sick with any illness or has any symptom associated with COVID-19, including fever, cough, tiredness, aches and pains, nasal congestion, sore throat, diarrhea, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, headache, chest pain/pressure, loss of taste or smell, discoloration of fingers or toes, or loss of speech or movement;
    3. Anyone who has returned from traveling outside of Canada in the past 14 days; or,
    4. Anyone who knows or believes that they may have been exposed in the past 14 days to: a person who has symptoms of COVID-19; or a person who has tested positive for COVID-19.
    5. All those who fall into any of these categories are considered a “prohibited person” and cannot attend the facility for play until the condition is resolved.
  2. The courts are not subject to a cleaning protocol by the Town or by the WTC, i.e. on door handles, benches, nets, etc. and it is the responsibility of everyone using the facility during the WTC permitted hours to ensure they are practicing good hand hygiene after touching any surfaces at the facility.  To facilitate, the court access doors are to be left open during the WTC permitted hours.
  3. Physical distancing of 2 meters will need to be strictly adhered to on the court and off while using the tennis facilities.
  4. Balls may be shared while on the court, but players should continue to practice good hand hygiene by using hand sanitizer before, during and after play, and always avoid touching your face.
  5. Courts may be booked online up to one week in advance.  You will have to enter the names of all players online at the time of booking and ALL PLAYERS MUST be members of the WTC and have a signed waiver on file with the WTC for COVID-19.  Click here for more information on our court booking services.
  6. After the initial booking, if the players included in the initial booking change, you must update the online booking system before your scheduled match start time with the actual members playing, as the WTC will need to maintain accurate records of players on court to assist with contact tracing in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak.
